Sunshine

My husband bought smart lights on Saturday, when we were out to see a movie with some of our friends.  We went to the store, my husband and our friend Justin got hooked into talking to the man who sells the lights, and the next thing I know they’re buying a box of smart lights and a rechargeable nightlight. Apparently, [the excuse I was given is that] Amazon has some sale, and you can get the smart lights for cheap or something, but I digress.

We got home and he set up said lights, and after our friend had gone home and it was far to late to be doing anything intensive or particularly smart, we spent far too many hours playing with our Echo and the lights.

Because it’s like having a dimmer switch that you can talk to, and they have better voltage and are apparently less expensive than normal light bulbs somehow [that’s probably propaganda marketing] .

Also I learned a lot about our Echo.

I have found out that Alexa is not particularly smart, and does not do percentages that aren’t multiples of ten. I have also discovered we need more Echos in the house, because we only have one in the living room, and I have a habit of murdering my cellphone’s battery before I get home from work, which means I can’t turn the lights on and off the way they are intended to be used now.

The light that interests me the most, though, has a colour changing led in it, so you can set what colour you want to use for whatever reason with your phone. I think this one was the most expensive out of the set that the guys bought, and it is wonderful.

I mean, it’s a light. You use lights to read things, or see things.

People don’t really think ‘Huh, a light, this will complete me. I am now a better person for having this light in my life.’

It’s like a little bowl of sunshine I can carry around with me wherever I want. It’s charming in a way I never thought to expect.

I find myself smiling at the stupid thing, for some reason I can’t quite describe. It makes me feel incredibly happy.

All this from an overly expensive light bulb.
